We hope this small clarification makes our popular and easy to understand rules for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Submission Grappling even better. This match will be a ten minute gi match under US Grappling’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu rules.  The match will begin promptly at 11:15 AM, immediately following the Wilson Reis vs Ryan Hall no-gi superfight!

Wilson Reis (BJJ United – Roberto Godoi black belt. Elite XC MMA champion, multiple time US Grappling champion, multiple time Grapplers Quest champion, 2004 IBJJF world champion at brown belt)

Ryan Hall (Fifty/50 BJJ – Felipe Costa black belt. 2009 ADCC bronze medalist, multiple time US Grappling, Grapplers Quest, and NAGA champion, 2008 IBJJF world champion at purple belt and medalist at brown belt in 2009)

This match will take place at 11 AM on Saturday, June 19th at US Grappling’s Diamond State Games. The match will be a ten minute no-gi superfight under US Grappling’s advanced division rules.

Anyone can observe the class, but we are limiting the number of actual referee candidates. To be considered, you must hold at least a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and must be recommended by another referee, coach, or instructor. You must also have competition experience.

The Referee’s Certification Clinic will cover common issues faced by referees and the proper way to handle such situations, proper scoring, “owning” your mat, protecting competitors, and many more topics. Before the day is through, all candidates will ref live matches, and will be critiqued on their performance. In order to learn to be a ref, one must actually do some reffing!

Women

• Super Feather: Up to 113.50
• Feather: 124.50
• Light: 135.50
• Middle: 147.00
• Medium Heavy: 158.00
• Heavy: Over 158.00

Competitors are not required to weigh in wearing the gi.

At the end of weigh ins, the children and teens will be sorted by weight.  Brackets will then be made by grouping them into sets of 4 or 8 (depending on turnout).  Children will be divided by weight, experience, and age (whenever possible).

Divisions for children and teens will be run as double elimination brackets, ensuring everyone gets at least two matches in each division.

Using the Madison system means children and teens will no longer cut weight since they won’t know the weight classes in advance.
